SAFEY INNOVATION
SGESCO-MAX was one of three finalists in the Safety Innovation Award for our MAX-SAFE Anti Rollaway Brake System.
While our solution was first introduced 2000, it has continued to be updated with the latest technology. Today, it is a microprocessor, software and sensor-based solution installed on over 15,000 trucks. Our Anti-Rollway solution is used heavily used in the waste industry and is now attracting the interest of other sectors across Australia and New Zealand including construction, utilities, transportation, and mining.
The other two finalists were:
- Stemco for their Wheely-Safe solution that identifies loose wheel nuts.
- And Scania Australia – for their Securing the Future of Workshop Safety solution.
This is a Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) Safety Management System (SMS) that ensures employees have a safe work system when interacting with electric vehicles.
“Scania were the winners for 2022 and we congratulate them and all the other finalists,” said Scott McPherson, Managing Director of SGESCO-MAX.
50 YEARS
The National Awards also recognised SGESCO-MAX’s 50 years of continuous membership of HVIA and its forerunner, the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland (CVIAQ). SGESCO-MAX joined CVIAQ in 1972 when the company was known as SGESCO and company founder, Albert McPherson at the helm. “The CVIAQ was established 52 years ago, so very few organisations qualify for this notable milestone, making the Awards night an extra special celebration,” noted Scott.
HVIA Chief Executive, Todd Hacking, said about SGESCO-MAX: “They made an early investment in the association and have been loyal ever since.” Fittingly, Albert was present to accept the award, cheered on by SGESCO-MAX staff and all in attendance. “SGESCO-MAX has always been a keen supporter of industry associations in which we operate, as a way to advance the professional standards, interests and representation of industry, said Scott. “It’s great that so many were there to honour our company and our father in this way – given the coverage and profile SGESCO-MAX has across Australia and within the heavy vehicle industry.”
At the awards presentation, Todd also reflected on the importance of the heavy vehicle industry and the service it does, which ensures that freight is delivered. He emphasised that freight was responsible for many essentials of life: food, clothing, sanitization, fuels, equipment for hospitals, machine parts, construction materials and more.
“Whether your role is making a truck or a trailer, selling it, repairing it, making a component or piece of technology to make the task safer or more efficient, we all play a vital role,” Todd said. “We all demonstrate through actions, what it means to be an effective, responsible participant in an effective, responsible industry.”
