SGESCO-MAX recognised for Safety

SGESGO-MAX was recently recognised as one of four Safety Award finalists in the 2021 Queensland Community Achievement Awards, held at a gala presentation dinner at Royal on the Park, Brisbane, on Friday 5 November.

Part of Awards Australia, the Queensland Community Achievement Awards started in 2002 to encourage, acknowledge and reward valuable contributions that individuals, communities and businesses make throughout Queensland – particularly in the areas of promoting social, economic and environmental prosperity.

In 2021 the Safety Award, sponsored by Synaco, honoured an organisation or project in Queensland, that demonstrated a clear focus on safety, through innovative and tailored approaches to the safety and wellbeing of employees, clients, participants, and members of the community.

In announcing SGESCO-MAX as a finalist, the awards committee noted that SGESCO-MAX was helping increase safety and productivity across Queensland and Australia. “Their flagship product MAX-SAFE Anti-Rollaway Brake System has become the de facto standard in the waste management industry. They are working on a Vulnerable Road User Protection initiative with SUEZ, aimed at protecting their operators and Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) and recently signed onto the National Road Safety Partner Programme.”

Managing Director of SGESCO-MAX, Scott McPherson, said it was an honour to be recognised alongside other high achievers, who are not just committed to ensuring the safety of Queenslanders, they deliver it through their endeavours – be that their time and skills or their products and services. These safety measures ultimately safeguard families and communities, he said.

Scott also congratulated Glen Cook of Kawungan, a passionate powerline safety advocate and integral to the Dial Before You Dig initiative, the winner of the 2021 Safety Award. Glen was also Australian Health and Safety Professional of the Year in June 2020. Along with SGESCO-MAX, other finalists were:

  • Mendi Group of Bohle, a Townsville civil construction business that employs 70 personnel, labourers and operators, has Federal Safety Certification and a recent five-year incident free safety record.
  • Road Accident Action Group of North Mackay, an NFP road safety group that has delivered fatigue presentations to over 20,000 workers in the Bowen Basin and coal district.
